How to Get Your Family on Board with the Household Harmony System

Updated: Aug 16, 2024

Having a hard time getting your fam to help out around the house? You’re not the only one. Lots of households struggle when trying to get everyone on board with new routines and responsibilities.

When I first brought up the Household Harmony System, my family was like we don’t need a written document (insert eyeroll), but it turns out it was easy of them to reference and follow steps. Here’s how we got through it. It all came down to talking things out, setting clear expectations, and working together as a team.

Tip 1: Talk It Out

  • Have the conversation

  • Break down the benefits & why this system is chef’s kiss.

  • Show them how it’s gonna make everyone’s life smoother.

    • You become comfortable with asking for help.

    • They are more open to helping with or without you asking.

Tip 2: Set Clear Expectations

  • Give tasks based on what each person is good at or prefers to do.

    • Make sure everyone knows what they gotta handle.

Tip 3: Work as a Team

  • Get everyone involved in setting up the system.

    • When they have a say, they’re more likely to stick with it.

  • Let everyone know how to communicate an updates, concerns or questions.

    • Encourage everyone to give feedback to keep the system running on all cylinders.

When everyone’s on the same page, the house runs way smoother, everyone feels appreciated and included in the process.
