A Thankful Heart: Reflecting on Life Systems That Changed My Year

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude—family, food, football, and pie (not always in that order). But this year, my thankfulness is hitting a little different. Sure, I’m grateful for the good eats and the laughter, but I’m also very grateful for something unexpected: my Life Systems.

These systems helped me find balance, reduce stress, and make room for joy—not just during the holidays, but throughout the year. Without them, I’d still be running on fumes, juggling a million things, and feeling like I’m constantly one step away from losing my 💩 .

Let’s be real—navigating life’s beautiful bitchiness felt like one giant, chaotic mess not too long ago. I was trying to manage our home, deal with the curveballs of chronic illness, and still show up as a mom, wife, and business owner. Spoiler: I was failing hard 😫.

The worst part? I couldn’t see a way out. Every day felt like a new level of overwhelm, especially during the holidays. Instead of enjoying the season, I was stuck trying to survive it.

Sound familiar? I know I’m not the only mom out there who feels this way.

Something had to give, so I decided to take my own advice (imagine that) and lean into my Life Systems.

First up: Energy Flow 🧘🏽‍♀️

I used to try and cram everything into my day, and by the time dinner rolled around, I was running on empty. This system helped me prioritize my time and energy. Instead of doing all the things, I started focusing on what really mattered. That sometimes meant saying no (or letting go of the guilt when I needed a nap instead of folding laundry).

Next: Active Living walking🚶🏽‍♀️

Exercise had become this overwhelming “should” on my to-do list. But this system reminded me to make movement joyful and easy. I started taking short walks in nature—it became my sanity saver. And dancing in the kitchen while baking Thanksgiving treats? Now, that’s a workout I can stick to.

And let’s talk about Artful Living 👩🏽‍🎨

This one brought the fun back. I’ve picked up crocheting again, and there’s something so calming about creating with my hands. It’s become my little pocket of peace in the chaos. I’ve tried bringing my munchkin into the world of gratitude, but let’s just say it’s a work in progress. While I haven’t cracked the code on getting her to embrace the concept yet, I’m holding space for it to click in her own time.

These systems didn’t just help me manage my day; they helped me rediscover what living (and enjoying life) feels like.

As I look back on this year, I can honestly say that these small shifts changed everything. And it’s got me wondering—what are you thankful for this year? What habits, routines, or systems have made your life even just a little bit easier?

If you’re reading this and thinking, “Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I felt balanced or calm,” let me tell you something: you don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. 😮‍💨
